Labor Day 2027 is Monday, Sept. 6. In Boca Raton it is a federal holiday weekend near the peak of hurricane season: city offices and public schools close, trash pickup shifts by a day, and the beach parks get busy. No Labor Day 2027 events had been posted by organizers when we checked; we will add them as they are announced.

Trash pickup

For Labor Day 2026 (Monday, Sept. 7), the city moved Monday pickup to Tuesday, Sept. 8, and Tuesday pickup to Wednesday, Sept. 9. Wednesday through Friday were not affected. What is open and closed

  • City offices: closed on Labor Day in 2026; the 2027 schedule has not been published.
  • Public schools: closed on Labor Day 2026 with district offices closed; the 2027-28 calendar has not been posted. See our schools guide.
  • Beach parks: open. Parking needs a city permit or a daily fee that is higher on weekends and holidays, and gatehouses do not take cash (beach permits).
  • Pools: Meadows Park Pool and the Swim Center are open year-round; hours on our summer camps and pools page.

Things to do on the long weekend

  • Beaches: South Beach Park, Red Reef Park (with snorkel areas) and Spanish River Park, where permitted dogs can use Bark Beach; see our dog-friendly guide.
  • Children’s Science Explorium, Sugar Sand Park: free, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends (Explorium).
  • Trails: the El Rio and Patch Reef trails, with free parking, open sunrise to sunset; see our trails guide.
  • Gumbo Limbo Nature Center: boardwalk 7 a.m. to sunset (Gumbo Limbo).
